Kuttner Lesion – Summary

0:01

I'd like to just take a moment to describe

0:03

the entity of the Küttner lesion.

0:06

This is a lesion that mimics a mass, usually in

0:10

the parotid gland or submandibular glands,

0:13

more commonly in the submandibular gland,

0:15

but my example is in the parotid gland.

0:18

This is also known as chronic sclerosing sialadenitis,

0:22

so a process that's been there for a while,

0:25

and yet it occurs in children more

0:27

commonly than in adults.

0:29

So it's a benign inflammatory condition, mimicking a

0:33

malignant neoplasm,

0:33

because it presents as a hard mass.

0:36

And that hard mass is basically sclerosing fibrotic

0:40

inflammatory tissue. This lesion,

0:43

which, for all the world looks like, it's going

0:45

to be a neoplasm and is well-defined mass,

0:49

was aspirated on numerous occasions and was taken out

0:52

and turned out to be chronic sclerosing

0:55

sialadenitis of the parotid gland.

0:59

So, an interesting entity of a foia, a potential pitfall,

1:05

a mass-like inflammatory condition in children

1:09

known as the Küttner lesion.
