<p>Welcome to ED Body Cases! In this course, you can tackle cases from the Emergency ED Body Mastery Course, randomized to simulate the Call experience. Refine your reading and interpretation skills by scrolling through the cases using our diagnostic web viewer. Determine your findings and answer the corresponding quiz question.</p>

TECHNIQUE: 
CT of the abdomen and pelvis WITH intravenous contrast. 

COMPARISON: None.

FINDINGS:

LOWER THORAX: There is atelectasis in the lower lobes bilaterally.

HEPATOBILIARY: There is diffuse hepatic steatosis. 

SPLEEN: No splenomegaly.

PANCREAS: The pancreas is diffusely edematous with peripancreatic stranding and free fluid tracking in the posterior peritoneum into the paracolic gutters bilaterally. There is region of low attenuation in the head of pancreas likely related to edema from inflammatory process. There is also a small amount free fluid in the pelvis.

ADRENALS: No adrenal nodules.

KIDNEYS/URETERS: There is a subcentimeter hypoattenuating lesion in the right midpole too small to characterize, likely a cyst. No hydronephrosis or stones.

PELVIC ORGANS/BLADDER: Unremarkable.

PERITONEUM / RETROPERITONEUM: No free air or fluid.

LYMPH NODES: No lymphadenopathy.

VESSELS: Unremarkable.

GI TRACT: No distention or wall thickening.

BONES AND SOFT TISSUES: No suspicious lytic or blastic lesions are visualized.

IMPRESSION: 
Acute pancreatitis with pancreatic edema and free peripancreatic fluid. Areas of low attenuation which may reflect necrosis. No evidence of a drainable fluid collection.
