<p>Welcome to ED Body Cases! In this course, you can tackle cases from the Emergency ED Body Mastery Course, randomized to simulate the Call experience. Refine your reading and interpretation skills by scrolling through the cases using our diagnostic web viewer. Determine your findings and answer the corresponding quiz question.</p>

CT ABDOMEN/PELVIS WITH CONTRAST

TECHNIQUE: Multidetector-row CT of the abdomen and pelvis was performed after administration of intravenous contrast using tailored dose modulation techniques. Images were reconstructed in the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes.

COMPARISON: None.

FINDINGS:

Lower Chest: Clear lung bases. No effusions.

Liver: No focal lesions.

Biliary: No biliary ductal dilatation. Noninflamed gallbladder with cholelithiasis.

Spleen: No splenomegaly or focal lesions.

Pancreas: No masses or ductal dilatation.

Adrenal Glands: No nodules.

Kidneys/Ureters: No solid masses or hydronephrosis. No stones.

Bowel: The appendix is dilated measuring up to 13 mm with wall thickening and mucosal hyperenhancement. There are extensive periappendiceal inflammatory changes and free fluid within the pelvis. There is a 4 mm appendicolith at the base of the appendix. Thickening of the cecum, likely reactive.

Peritoneum/Retroperitoneum: No masses, free air, or fluid.

Lymph Nodes: No lymphadenopathy.

Pelvic Organs/Bladder: No masses.

Vessels: No abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Bones/Soft Tissues: No destructive osseous lesions.

IMPRESSION:

Acute appendicitis with appendicolith. No evidence of perforation or organized fluid collection.
